What is EFFT? (Emotion Focused Family Therapy)
Supporting a loved one struggling with their mental health and/or wellness can be challenging. Foundry Virtual BC has adopted Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) as one of the helping services in alignment with our model and vision. We believe that supporting caregivers with skills and tools promotes better wellness outcomes for all. Research proves that recovery rates rise dramatically when family is involved.
Don’t see a date that works for you? Please keep checking back for new workshops added.
These workshops are delivered virtually, via the Zoom platform. These workshops are offered at no cost to you the caregivers.
Please note: a caregiver must have their own Foundry Virtual BC account set up BEFORE registering. This group is open to all caregivers (ie: parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, cousin, sibling etc – biological, adoptive, surrogate, step, foster or simply by circumstance) that would like to connect with other caregivers supporting youths (ages 12 – 24) in their lives that may be navigating mental health and/or substance use challenges.

Queer Cafe’s Community Guidelines

add

Interested in attending a Queer Cafe group with Foundry Virtual BC? Amazing! We are so excited to meet you!

Inclusivity

It is everyone’s responsibility to keep the group and event an accepting space.

  • Your preferred name, your pronouns, and last initial of your last name are mandatory on your Zoom profile, so we know who you are, along with your pronouns to avoid misgendering. (Many people might have the same first name, which is why we ask for the last initial of your last name, too. 😊 )
  • Gender expression is different than gender Identity. Please use the correct pronouns for someone.
  • Everyone makes mistakes! In the case where you misgender someone/ offend someone, it’s okay! We suggest that you just apologize and move on.
  • We recognize that everyone is always learning, and people will make mistakes. We try to “call people in” by helping them understand when something is hurtful.
  • Bullying and stereotyping (including gossip) is not allowed.
  • Avoid oppressive language (ex. using identity terms as insults).
  • To ensure that Queer Cafe is a safe space, we will not tolerate any hate/discrimination against other youth within the group. Please be respectful and accepting towards others, especially when we all have different perspectives and views. Everyone’s input is valuable and should not be judged in a negative manner.
  • When talking about topics, use “I” statements, to avoid putting words into another’s mouth. (ex. I feel…, I personally think…, In my perspective/experience…)

Confidentiality

  • Everything discussed in this group remains confidential in the virtual group space. Please do not talk about others’ experiences outside of this group.  We want people to feel safe sharing here, knowing their privacy outside this space will be respected.
  • If you have concerns about someone who has the intent to hurt themselves/others, or is in a situation where they’re not safe, please connect with a Queer Cafe facilitator directly, rather than managing it on your own. In session, this would be through Zoom’s direct messaging. Outside of Queer Cafe session, you can email us at: queercafe@foundrybc.ca
  • If you have problems with someone within the Queer Cafe sessions, please connect with a Queer Cafe facilitator and express that to them privately rather than dealing with the conflict on your own.

This event is a substance-free space.

If you want to seek support with substance-use concerns, privately message a Queer Cafe facilitator or book a 1-1 appointment with a service provider at Foundry.

I’m experiencing a crisis right now and need immediate help. Is the Queer Café right for me?
The Queer Café is an activity and discussion group and isn’t meant to provide crisis support or intervention. If this is an emergency, consider contacting one of the following services, or call 911:

Additional Support

There are no wrong questions, here! If you want to connect with our team, please reach out directly!  We are here to help, and want to make this space as welcoming and open as possible 😊 Our email is queercafe@foundrybc.ca

Beauty of Life In Psychosis (BLIP) is a six-session art and creativity group for young people who self-identify as experiencing psychosis and/or voices, visions and unique beliefs. Sessions will be held over Zoom, and will involve guided creative exercises as well as time to talk, share, and work on your own creative projects. After the group is completed, participants will also have the option to have their work exhibited online. Gift cards to purchase art supplies will be provided!

BLIP is open to young people ages 12-24 who live anywhere in BC, and we’ll be running the group multiple times. To register, click the button below. After you complete the registration form, one of the group facilitators will contact you to follow up.

Learn more about BLIP

The BLIP youth group was born out of the idea that people who experience psychosis, hear voices, see visions, and/or have unique beliefs need a safe(r) space to socialize, get creative, and express ourselves. Our goal is to encourage participants to find beauty, hope, and community within or around these experiences. With support from Foundry Virtual BC and Vancouver Coastal Health’s Consumer Initiative Fund, that idea became a reality. Using these funds, we were able to collaborate with Paint Spot and provide free art supplies for everyone in the group.

Learn more about BLIP and view some of the artwork created with the first cohort of the BLIP youth group by reading the blog post, Discovering Beauty of Life in Psychosis.
