After joining the Foundry Provincial Youth Advisory Committee, Alisha began working on a research project about the feelings youth have about climate change in British Columbia. Despite having no previous research experience, Alisha found “this was such a meaningful experience for me to participate in the different aspects of research, from consulting on interview guides to recruitment strategies.”
Since this initial project, Alisha has continued working with Foundry Research, collaborating and consulting with researchers to make their work more relevant and engaging for youth.
“All the research projects I have participated in at Foundry have been incredible. I have been supported by the entire team who have created a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of their previous research experience. Many of the individuals involved have taken extra steps to educate youth, including myself, to allow for a comprehensive understanding of the project.” – Alisha, youth working with Foundry Research.
Alisha has seen the impact of youth engagement in research firsthand and is now considering a future career as a researcher. “The most current research project I’ve been involved with has demonstrated the significance of having a youth voice and perspective, especially when conducting research on youth,” said Alisha.
“Having youth involved in research has allowed for increased outreach and engagement from youth.” – Alisha, youth working with Foundry Research.
