WHAT DO I WANT TO DO?
When you’re starting to think about a career, a great first step is to learn more about the types of careers that are out there! Talk to your friends, family members or school counsellor to discover and learn about jobs and fields that interest you.
It also helps to make a list of things you enjoy and things you feel you are good at. Also, think about things like:
- Do you want to work inside or outside?
- Are you okay travelling for work?
- Do you want to work a 9am-5pm, night shifts or rotating shift work?
- Do you want to continue your education?
You can then match your skills and preferences to possible careers. There are probably a lot of jobs you don’t even know exist! Choose some of the jobs that interest you and learn more about them.
You will want to know the:
- job duties
- education needed
- work environment
- demand for that job (will it be easy to get this job?)
- salary
