Self-injury is when a person hurts themself on purpose to help deal with difficult thoughts or feelings. Some people who self-injure may have suicidal thoughts, but this is not always the case. Start small. Not all of the techniques will work for everyone. Choose some that appeal to you and give each of them a try for five minutes.
Remember, these are strategies to use when you feel stress. They should help to manage your challenging thoughts and feelings and help to maintain your well-being. If the strategies you use don’t help you feel better OR you feel worse after, you should probably try another strategy.
