“My experiences as a Youth Advisor collaborating on research projects have provided me with a broader perspective on how research can drive meaningful change,” says Preet, a member of the Foundry Provincial Youth Advisory Committee for the past three years.
Preet’s journey has been shaped by a goal to understand and address the needs of diverse communities, with current projects spanning the globe from British Columbia to Vietnam. These include a project looking at distress related to climate change among youth in British Columbia and the Y-PRIME project, connecting youth in Canada and Vietnam to adapt and implement an evidence-based intervention for mental health as a mobile application. Preet gives feedback and recommendations on research design, implementation and effectiveness, ensuring youth perspectives are heard throughout the research.
“Working on the Foundry research projects is engaging and fulfilling. With each research project, I have the opportunity to work alongside dedicated professionals and community members who are passionate about making a difference in youth mental health. Each project provides me with an opportunity to dive deep into important issues, gather insights and develop solutions that could be beneficial. Knowing that I’m assisting with something that has the potential to positively influence the lives of young people is deeply rewarding.” – Preet, youth working with Foundry Research
Preet recognizes the importance of continuing this work. “On a personal level, being involved in research has been an enriching experience. Not only has it expanded my skills, but also my perspectives and commitment to youth mental health in diverse settings,” says Preet. “Additionally, my involvement helps to ensure that youth perspectives are integrated into research and policy-making processes.”
“I’m excited about the future of Foundry Research because I look forward to continuing to explore new ways to support and advocate for youth mental health.” – Preet, youth working with Foundry Research
