Foundry Port Hardy is here to support the health and wellness needs of youth and their families in our rural North Island area. All Foundry services are free and confidential.
Foundry Port Hardy is operated by North Island Crisis & Counselling Centre Society (NICCCS). At Foundry centres, multiple service providers and organizations work together to provide a variety of services to youth ages 12-24 and their families/caregivers. Our centre serves the area that encompasses Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Alert Bay, Sointula, Port Alice and all neighbouring First Nations Communities.

Get Involved
Foundry centres are created for young people, by young people! We are currently recruiting for our Youth & Family Advisory Committee (YFAC), which will:
- Help inform and create the decision-making process for the centre
- Inform the physical aspects of the centre, services available, etc.
YFAC is an integral part of the team and help shape youth services in Port Hardy.

YOUTH AND FAMILY COUNSELLOR – MAT LEAVE TERM: Up to 1 YEAR
Foundry is removing barriers and increasing access to health and wellness services for young people ages 12–24 and their caregivers through a network of youth-friendly centers across British Columbia and online. By offering integrated mental health care, substance use services, physical and sexual health care, youth and family peer support and social services; Foundry makes it easier for young people to find support in their communities. Online resources and first-of-its-kind virtual care further broaden Foundry’s reach. The Youth and Family Counsellor will provide single session, short term and drop in counselling services that reduce risk associated to mental health and/or substance use, promote positive choices for a healthier lifestyle , positive connections and attachment to community. This position reports directly to the Foundry program manager. This position is to cover a maternity leave for a period of up to 1 year.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide single session brief solution focused counselling in a drop-in model center;
- Provides individual, family and group counselling using therapeutic techniques drawn from theoretical frameworks such as emotional focused family therapy (EFFT), brief solution-focused, narrative, motivational interviewing, and client directed outcome informed practice. Harm reduction or other best or promising practice;
- Establishes and maintains coordinated working relationships with other human service providers and caregivers;
- Provides crisis intervention and support to youth and their families when required;
- Refers youth and their families as necessary to other services, residential programs, support groups etc. Efforts are made to reduce or eliminate barriers for clients needing to use a resource. Provides follow up and support as required.
Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in counselling or a Bachelor’s degree in a related human services field with specialized training and/or experience in the area of mental health. Two (2) years of experience which should include:
