Our drop-in counselling services are for youth ages 12-24. We’re here to support you with whatever is on your mind today, one session at a time. 

A counsellor can be a source of support in difficult times. You can talk to them about life, relationships, mental health, school, your questions about substance use or anything that’s on your mind.

A counsellor can help you see your own strengths and figure out your goals, while honouring your values, beliefs and identity.

You’re welcome to use this service more than once, but we cannot guarantee you will have the same counsellor every time. 

Some examples of the supports we offer include:

• Care Planning and specialized treatment for those who need support for both their mental health and substance use together.
• Intensive Case Management (ICM): substance use health supports with or without mental health supports. This service is intended for folks who are experiencing challenges associated with housing, income and health, early psychosis, and/or difficulties accessing health and social services, where less intensive services have been unsuccessful or aren’t appropriate.
• Prevention initiatives, including the Parent Education Series, Let’s Talk Shop, MHSU Webinars, and curriculum teacher training. This team also leads engagement activities for caregivers (Parent Ambassadors) and the youth service provider network (Youth Coalition, Pride at the Pier, City Fest, etc.).

The YURT team provides short-term crisis, bridging and case management support to youth who are in crisis and/or not connected to other longer term programs. The Team also follows-up with youth who visit the Lions Gate Hospital Emergency Room for Mental Health or Substance Use related reasons and need to be supported until they can connect with a longer-term service. The team also attends youth mental health related calls with the police in North Vancouver as needed.

The Team serves youth 12-24 who identify as in crisis. Anyone who feels they meet these criteria can refer themselves someone else who lives in North or West Vancouver to our service. To refer, just call 604-230-0389. The team will work with youth (and families if requested) for a period of up to 12 weeks.
